Training Introduction

From Dean Allen ACU Coach on the structure of the day……

Arrive at 09:00 for a 09:30 start with riding kit on.

Your day with us always begins with signing on and a safety brief.

I talk to the group and ask questions about what kind of riding they have done – what they want to do, and if there’s something in particular they each want to get out of the day.

I then explain the format of the day………..

I put a bike on a stand and ask the group to gather around.

We then work our way down the bike, starting at the handlebars – finishing with tyres.

My assistant will sit on the bike and demonstrate different riding positions and ways to help conserve energy, all beneficial for trail riding.

We also talk about tools and spares to carry – suitable clothing- riding etiquette.

This is usually completed in around 30 mins.

We then get on bikes and ride a small loop of varying terrain. This is observed by myself and allows me to assess each rider’s abilities very quickly.

We then start going through my program of relevant bike techniques – skills – exercises.

Every exercise is demonstrate and the group are asked to find a space to practice the exercise, this allows me to walk amongst the trainees and give 1:1 guidance.

All of the exercises I coach can be made easier or harder depending on the trainees abilities.

We then break for lunch 45 mins, please bring your own lunch and suitable drink.

After lunch we have a quick warm up on the same loop we did in the morning, followed by 5-6 trials sections which are set to the groups abilities (set up by myself during your lunch).

Each section will contain at least 2 or more of the skills you have begun to learn.

This is a unique way off coaching and satisfying for everyone involved, this is the fun part for me watching you pull things together and of course a little banter.

We usually have around an hour left after the sections, this is where we can go back to any of the exercises or do something different.

The day will end around 15.30 -16.00
